Well the last week has been a write off as far as training goes. With my son down with chicken pox and my wife away, I've been flat out on dad duties!
Training has taken a back seat in a big way. Although my body was telling me it was time for a bit of a break anyway. I haven't had a week off for quite a while.
I generally follow a 4 weeks on, 1 week half intensity template, with a rest week every 12 weeks. I find this keeps me fresh and allows any niggles in my body to settle down. I'd lost track of this template a bit over the last few months as I was focusing so much on clients and the business and not much on my own training. The last week off has allowed me to find some balance and put a few things in place that will help me to keep track of everything.
The week off I have every 12 weeks isn't really a total rest week. I still do mobility movements everyday and things like self-myofascial release with a foam roller and might even get a good massage. I find these things important for recovery. As the adaptation's within your body take place outside the gym, you need to make time for recovery. Plus it gets you ready to hit your next session just as hard as you hit the last one.
Back into the gym tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
